Jaipur (Pink City)

Jaipur is famous for the name Pink City, and it is also a major destination for international travellers. Every building within the walled historic centre is painted with “pink” colour. It is the first planned city in India. Jaipur has a rich history of rulers who lived in magnificent forts and palaces. Apart from a few buildings, the entire city is painted in the colour of hospitality, and visitors and guests are welcomed with open arms.

Jaipur is also known as the Pink City, and visitors will understand the reasoning behind its name upon arrival. Every building in the city is walled as a historic center with painted “pink” colour. Jaipur is also the first planned city in India.

City Palace

City Palace is one of the major historical attractions, situated in the heart of Jaipur city. ‘Mubarak Mahal’ and ‘Chandra Mahal’ are the popular attractions of the city palace complex. The City Palace in Jaipur, built from 1729 to 1732, is a must-visit on any Jaipur tour. It was commissioned by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh and served as the seat of power for the King of Jaipur. The architecture blends Mughal and Rajput styles, creating a stunning façade. You'll be awed by the intricate peacock-designed gates and can explore spacious courtyards, lush gardens, and a museum. Fun fact: The Royal family still lives here.

City Palace

Hawa Mahal

Hawa Mahal, is known for the Palace of The Winds. It is one of the major tourist attractions in Jaipur. In the heart of the city in 1799, Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh created a beautiful five-storey palace structure. The architect of the palace used red and pink sandstone in the construction. This building is in the shape of the crown of Lord Krishna with 953 jharokhas or windows and beautifully decorated with honeycomb of a beehive that gives one a feel of the rich heritage of the Rajputs. It is one of the inspirations for the nickname ‘Pink City’. The design keeps the palace cool in hot summers. It also lets the royal women watch street events without being seen, following the custom of 'Purdah' from that time.

Amber Fort

The location of Amer Fort is 11 km from the City Center. It is also the main tourist attraction of Jaipur. The fort is situated on the top of a hill and declared a World Heritage Site along with five Hill Forts of Rajasthan. Climb up to see amazing views of a beautiful lake, hills, and Jaipur city. Then, at night, enjoy a fantastic light and sound show at the Public Audience Hall. Nearby, visit the Sila Devi temple and try delicious local food at the 1135 AD restaurant.

Architecture

The city was planned according to the Indian Vastu Shastra by Vidyadhar Bhattacharya in 1727. Three gates are facing east, west, and north.

Local Cuisine

Typical dishes include Dal Baati Churma, Missi Roti, Gatte ki Sabzi, Ker Sangri, Makke ki Ghat, Bajre ki Ghat and Bajre ki Roti are famous dishes and attractions for tourists.
