Saudi Arabia Air Travel Soars Record Passenger

Riyadh, 31/07/2024 Saudi Arabia’s aviation industry continues to ascend new heights. Following a record-breaking year in 2023, passenger traffic surged by an impressive 17% in the first half of 2024, with nearly 62 million travellers passing through the kingdom’s airports.

According to data released by the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), this substantial growth is accompanied by a 12% increase in flight operations, totalling 446,000 during the same period. The kingdom's skies are not only busier with passenger flights but also with cargo carriers. Air freight has witnessed a remarkable 41% growth, transporting 606,000 tons of goods by the end of June.

Low-cost carriers have been a key driver of this expansion, contributing significantly to the overall growth. These airlines have seen a substantial 38% increase in international routes and a 22% rise in domestic operations.

Saudi Arabia Airports Named World's Most Advanced for 2024

Saudi Arabia’s aviation sector is soaring to new heights. National carrier Saudia has been crowned the world's most advanced airline and boasts the best economy-class catering in the 2024 Skytrax rankings.

The kingdom’s aviation success story continues, with 16 Saudi airports earning the Airports Council International (ACI) and Airport Service Quality (ASQ) accreditation for 2024. This achievement positions the nation's airports closer to the global top 50.

King Fahd International Airport in Dammam has further elevated the kingdom's aviation reputation by securing three Saudi Airports Awards in 2023. Recognized as the best airport in its category, it also excelled in customs inspection and services for disabled passengers.

These triumphs highlight Saudi Arabia's dedication to building a world-class aviation industry.

Saudi Arabia Expands Airport Capacity to Welcome More Passengers

Saudi Arabia’s airline network has witnessed substantial growth, now encompassing 163 destinations a 23% increase compared to the previous year. This enhanced connectivity is poised to boost tourism and economic development across the kingdom significantly.

These achievements reflect the progress in implementing GACA’s initiatives and programs aligned with the National Strategy of Saudi Arabia for the Civil Aviation Sector. This comprehensive strategy outlines ambitious goals to elevate the sector globally.

By 2030, the kingdom aims to welcome 330 million passengers annually, handle 4.5 million tons of air transport, and establish connectivity to 250 destinations. These targets underscore Saudi Arabia’s commitment to becoming a global aviation hub.
